The 2008 Ec(h)o Art Show hosting by Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School was a huge success. It was a blast and I enjoyed it very much. With all the hype towards the art show, I definitely couldn't miss out. The one week event gave me a chance to hang around the art show with friends and relax from doing units all year long. My favourite part of the art show was watching the movies made by grade 11 and 12 students in the video studio. Most of the movies were quite entertaining and thrilling. The movies Vindictive and Wild Card would be my favourite, even though all the students did a remarkable job for filming such professional-looking videos. Another great aspect to the show was the revolving door as it reminded me of the movie Chronicles of Narnia. The art work was brilliant. Knowing that they were all created by Mary Ward students and a couple by me gave me a great feeling of accomplishment and achievement. After all the fun, I also gained a quest unit, so at least i was being somewhat productive. Overall, the Ec(h)o Art Show was a highlight of my school year. I loved the coffee as well as the cookies. The theme of the show fitted in great and I think the teachers and students involved did a superb job organizing the event. I can't wait for the upcoming art show next year!
In our generation, teens around the world surround around innovations such as the newest video games. Video games are being more and more popular each and everyday compared to movies. I assume many people like to experience hands on entertainment rather than just watching a movie. Teenagers like to spend time with friends and do something they all enjoy. Most people enjoy games, therefore video games have become a crucial form of entertainment to teens aged 13-19. Most teens like to be physical and active, running and jumping all day and they never get tired. Going to other people's houses and hanging out are typical activities. What's the point of going to a friend's house with no games or entertainment? There wouldn't be the same amount of joy within you people without video games.
Watching a movie may be entertaining as well... sometimes. When movies are watched everyday, it tends to get boring. On the other hand, video games, can be played over and over again as you just want to get better and beat the game. Video gaming systems such the Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360 are in high demand and most family own at least one of them. Guitar Hero and RockBand are most definitely the most popular games right now. Playing games allow people to yell and scream and have fun. When you're in a movie theatre, there's a different atmosphere. Staying quiet in a 2-hour long movie may not be as entertaining as it seems. Therefore, movies can be watched once in a while as I will go with video games as a constant form of entertainment.
In my point of view Chris Avenir was wrongfully accused by Ryerson University. I think he did nothing incorrect and should not be punished for trying to get help from others. All Chris wanted to do was to learn from others as well as teaching others who don't understand.
Helping and teaching is not a crime. No one should receive penalty for receiving help. It's the same theory as asking a professor or teacher for assistance on an assignment. As long as he didn't plagiarize, the way he finished his assignment or how he learned how to do it should not matter. All university students get very stressful and just want to pass their course with a good mark. Chris simply used a popular social network on the internet to his preference which benefits many people including himself. I think this Chris thought of a smart way to find advice and tips from others. Learning through Facebook can help relieve stress and should definitely not be an offense. I totally support Chris Avenir's actions and his intention of learning.
I think Facebook can be a great educational tool in the future. It can be similar to our eClass learning system. A network for a course can be formed and students may communicate through conversations. Teachers can be available online and students can seek for help from them. Assignments can be handed into the teachers inbox as well as through e-mail. As Facebook is one of the largest social networks next to MySpace, it can be a great alternative for those who don't have time to go to school.
Mac Vs. PC! Which is better? Well I think he biggest difference between the two is preference. Macs are definitely great computers. Apple Macbooks are the best-selling laptops by college students and are well known for its sleek designs and fast performances. However, there are plenty of PC manufactures that are capable of making equally or even better computers. An exceptional feature on Macbooks are their long battery lives. However, Macs are generally much more expensive compared to a PC with similar specifications.
The Max OS X operating system is by far the most simple to use, though it is far from being perfect. In fact, the Mac OS X is much more vulnerable to viruses compared to a PC with Windows XP or Vista installed. However, the recently released Mac OS X Leopard have solved some of the problems but not all. Security issues on the Mac have been improved along with the ability to boot Windows operating systems through BootCamp. This can allow Mac users to have the privilege to use Mac OS X and Windows and may dramatically increase the popularity for Macs.
Most if not all software you will need is available on a PC. Unfortunately, Mac users may not have access to all types of software. However, on the positive side, Mac users are able to run a lot of their applications on a faster speed. For example, a Mac will run Adobe Photoshop faster than a PC with the same features, which definitely attracts many consumers.
Overall, I think Macs give better performance but may not give all the software you require. Therefore, I recommend basic computer users to use Macs and more advanced users to use a PC. Personally, I own a Macbook and I'm loving the performance and I value the battery life. I've had it for a while now and have no problem with it what so ever. I'm 100% satisfied with my Macbook and will continue to purchase Macs in the future.
My total ecological footprint in hectares is 6.7. The average ecological footprint for someone living in Canada is 8.8. If everyone lived like me, we would need about four planets in order for there to be enough ecological footprint hectares for everyone.
Worldwide there exists only 1.8 biologically productive hectares per person. I think that people in Canada and North America use up a lot more ecological footprint hectares compared to people in other countries such as Pakistan. An average person in Pakistan just uses 0.7 hectares, therefore I think we need to start using environmental friendly products and change the way North American people live their lives.
People can reduce our ecological footprint by doing many small things. For example, we can walk or ride a bike to school instead of driving a car. Also, people can eat more vegetables instead of meat, this is beneficial to our environment as well as our health. In addition, students and workers should bring lunch boxes instead of throwing out wrappings and packaging. Most importantly, all humans need to reduce, recycle, and reuse. Small things like this can reduce our ecological footprint dramatically.
I think everyone should visit this interactive website to find out their ecological footprint. It helped me become more self aware about the way we live our lives and how we don't really care about our environment. After realizing that I, along with everyone else in the world may be harming and destroying our planet, I must need to stop this from happening by helping to reduce, reuse, and recycle. If everyone in the world looked in this website, I think people's way of life will dramatically change which will definitely be positive to Earth, our home.
Our music industry needs an apparent change. It should not require buyers to go to a retailer and pay for way over-priced music. The price of music should be lowered and afterwards, maybe more people will save some time downloading tracks and actually buying affordable songs. Some ways that might allow the lowering of prices may include lowering the pay of already highly-compensated musicians.
In addition, software and programs should follow the same route. Honestly, do publishers really expect teens and students to spend $300+ to do their homework using Microsoft Word or Adobe CS3? I don't even their parents would approve of the purchase of such expensive programs even if they use their own money. So, if such programs reduce their prices to about $100, more people will consider buying it and support their productions. I'm sure these companies will still be earning lots of money they already possess.
Generally, if music and downloads don't get noticeably cheaper, people will still to download from peer-to-peer sharing programs such as Limewire and torrents. If producers want us to buy their products, they must offer something that can't be downloaded from the internet. Otherwise, consumers will be forced to continue the practice of downloading even if it may be unethical.
